Cowlands Farm is our oldest and most established venue, in fact this season will be the sixth on the water for the 32 man syndicate. The irregular shaped lake situated near Braintree, Essex has enough features and bankside cover to give a variety of angling opportunities, whether you prefer to sit behind your rods or stalk in the edge.

Originally the lake was less than two acres and was extended to its present size to extract gravel in the mid- nineties. When the gravel extraction came to an end the banks were extensively landscaped by the owner. We have seen, over the last few seasons, the lake and surroundings mature into a very nice looking venue. The lake is situated in a dip so the angler is wel sheltered and protected from the full forces of mother nature.

Cowlands has a multitude of features which makes it an interesting place to fish. The old part of the lake has depths to 15 foot and there are some sharp drop- offs in the margins where the old lake previously was.

Cowlands members will have another water to fish as part of their ticket next season. The lower reservoir will be open to carp angling for the first time since the lake was constructed nearly fifty years ago. The water which was landscaped when it was first excavated is set amongst very mature woodland, in fact it had become overgrown and virtually unfishable. We have now carried out most of the work required to turn the water into an accesible yet intimate fishery.

The water is roughly one and a half acres in size with depths up to 8 foot although the average is 4 to 5 foot. There is a spit which extends into the lake, one side of the spit is a channel which leads into the bay and on the other side is the main drag of the water. We will be aiming to keep as much of the character of the lake as possible whilst making it safe for the angler and fish.
