32lb Common
32lb Mirror black as your hat
Steeped in carp fishing history, Stanwick has been producing large carp for many years. Located in the heart of the Nene valley, the complex is made up of six lakes catering for a variety of anglers. Almost all the lakes contain carp, but for those looking for specimen carp, Mallard Lake, Elsons Lake and Roman Lake (syndicate) will be of most interest. Mallard is a four-acre gravel pit with varying depths ranging from 6-12ft. The margins are reed lined with a few overhanging bushes - the water also contains a few gravel bars and a couple of other interesting features that are worth casting a bait towards. There are over 500 carp in the lake ranging from 6lb-25lb with the majority being mid to upper doubles.
Elsons Lake is a beautiful, mature lake surrounded by many large trees. The lake is approximately six acres in size with depths ranging from 6-9ft. Surrounded by reeds the lake features several gravel bars, many sunken trees, pads and overhanging trees - each swim has plenty of features to fish to. There are quite a few very large carp within the lake and the current lake record stands at 39lb 4oz. There are a maximum of 12 anglers allowed on at any one time so booking is advisable.
The Stanwick Lakes site offers off road parking and there is a Portaloo for anglers’ use.
The fishery is regularly featured in Carp-Talk’s Nene Valley Carping by Andy James. In recent weeks, although the lake has been very quiet angler-wise, there has still been quite a few carp getting caught.
