Millennium Park Empty
PostSubject: Millennium Park   Millennium Park I_icon_minitimeMon Nov 08, 2010 8:00 pm

Millennium Park is a public park located in the Loop community area of Chicago in Illinois, USA. It is a prominent civic center near the city's Lake Michigan shoreline that covers a 24.5-acre (9.9 ha) section of northwestern Grant Park. The area was previously occupied by parkland, Illinois Central rail yards and parking lots.[1] The park, which is bounded by Michigan Avenue, Randolph Street, Columbus Drive and East Monroe Drive, features a variety of public art. As of 2009, Millennium Park trailed only Navy Pier as a Chicago tourist attraction.[2]

Planning of the park began in October 1997. Construction began in October 1998, and Millennium Park was opened in a ceremony on July 16, 2004, four years behind schedule. The three-day opening celebrations were attended by some 300,000 people and included an inaugural concert by the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus. The park has received awards for its accessibility and green design.[3] Millennium Park has free admission,[4] and features the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Cloud Gate, the Crown Fountain, the Lurie Garden and other attractions. The park is connected by the BP Pedestrian Bridge and the Nichols Bridgeway to other parts of Grant Park. Because the park sits atop a parking garage and the commuter rail Millennium Station, it is considered the world's largest rooftop garden.

Millennium Park is considered to be the city's most important project since the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893,[4][5] and it far exceeded its originally proposed budget of $150 million. The final cost of $475 million was borne by Chicago taxpayers and private donors. The city paid $270 million; private donors paid the rest,[6] and assumed roughly half of the financial responsibility for the cost overruns.[7] The construction delays and cost overruns were attributed to poor planning, many design changes, and cronyism. Many critics have praised the completed park.

he Art of Green Demolition

Nowadays, the focus is on the environment and the demolitions field is no exception. There is a green way of removing a building called deconstruction which is simply removing pieces of a building one by one and then sending some portions of the disassembled structure off to be recycled or reused. This approach to tearing down a building is one of the best in terms of being environmentally-friendly but it can be more expensive and time consuming than controlled demolition. However, if you care for the environment, then it is recommended that you use this option. You could even reuse the materials that you salvage on your old building in creating a new one. The usual process is to first take out all items such as doors, windows, light fixtures and other easily removable items. Then, it is normal to start removing the structural items starting from the roof and working down towards the foundations. Deconstruction does not have to be limited to buildings and something like bridges demolition is also possible via this method. In fact, any structure can be disassembled and sent off to local salvaging contacts or landfills. Talk to a demolitions company to find out exactly what they can do to assist you with deconstructing your building. They should also have a list of all businesses nearby who can take in your used materials. Some of these businesses will purchase your materials from you while others may be not-for-profit organisations specialising in helping the environment.

Compare Brand Name Hearing Aids - Model, Channel and Price
As an online retailer and as a hearing professional for over 32 years, I feel it my obligation to point out a few very important items when searching for a hearing aid. I am one who tells it like it is, so please pay close attention to the following hearing aid comparison items as you review the list of major manufacturers instruments and the associated pricing below. In this hearing aid comparison you will find pricing and features for brand names such as Phonak, Siemens, Rexton, ReSound, Beltone, Miracle Ear, Micro Tech and others.

1. As pointed out in my free report, all digital hearing aid microchips are manufactured by only two manufacturers world wide. So, the names and models end up being insignificant other than the companies have generally made a good name for themselves and the unit construction may vary in quality and appearance.
